Master of European Social Security

Welcome to the webpage of the advanced master programme 'Master of Social Security'!

This advanced one-year master programme organised by the Institute of Social Law of the KU Leuven provides its students a specialized, research based study of social security and this from a legal, social policy, administrative and philosophical perspective based on a strong comparative framework. The programme contains a multinational, multidisciplinary and comparative element as it focuses on social protection across Europe from different disciplinary angles.  Confronted with the most recent scientific research concerning social security the students are also stimulated to reflect individually on a scientific level.

Because of this multinational, multidisciplinary and comparative approach the students will not only obtain a broad and specific knowledge, but they will also be able to acquire new knowledge on social security, to process and assess it in a critical way through their own scientific reflection and in their professional activities relevant to policy matters. The content and educational approach of the programme aims at encouraging the students again and again to engage in a profound scientific reflection on social security and to translate these scientific findings into relevant policy conclusions and plans.

By combining two educational approaches, namely distance learning and contact teaching, this programme is very flexible and facilitates persons who are professionally active to follow the programme while remaining professionally active.  The classes and workshops organised in Leuven are grouped into a limited number of weeks.  For the remaining time, the participants will study from their home environment making extensive use of a digital learning platform where the best teachers of Europe guide them through the specially designed textbooks.

Applications for the next academic year 2010 - 2011 will start as of the 1st of December 2009.
